Dashful for Google Sheets

Help for the Google Sheets add-on

Getting the add-on, signing in, sending tabs, dashboards in the sidebar, sync, formulas, and rolling it out to a Google Workspace.

Get the add-on

Dashful for Google Sheets isn't in the Google Workspace Marketplace yet, so it can't be installed today. This page describes it as it will work once it's listed.

Once it is: open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets in a desktop browser, choose Extensions → Add-ons → Get add-ons, search for Dashful and install it. At a firm on Google Workspace, your admin can install it for everyone; see "For Google Workspace admins" below.

Open it with Extensions → Dashful → Open Dashful. Google Sheets add-ons don't run in the Sheets mobile apps.

Until it's listed, download a tab as Excel or CSV (File → Download) and upload it to Dashful, or connect Google Drive in Dashful and pick the spreadsheet.

The first time, the sidebar shows what Dashful does and what leaves the spreadsheet. Choose Get started, then Sign in to Dashful.

The sign-in page opens in a new browser tab. Sign in, pick the workspace, tick Also allow changes so the add-on can send tabs, and choose Allow. Then go back to the spreadsheet: the sidebar updates by itself. No account yet? You can create one on the same page.

Prefer a token? Choose Use a personal access token instead and paste a token made in Dashful under Settings → Security, with "allow changes" ticked. If your company runs Dashful itself, set its address under Server settings.

Sign out is at the top of the sidebar. For a browser sign-in it also revokes the sign-in in Dashful. A personal access token stays valid until you revoke it under Settings → Security.

Google lets you untick some of the add-on's permissions when you add it. The sidebar then says what won't work without them, with Review permissions to allow them.

Several Google accounts

Google's add-on runtime doesn't support several Google accounts signed in to one browser at once. The sidebar may then fail with "Authorization is required", or act as the wrong account.

Use a separate Chrome profile, or another browser, for each Google account. Or sign out of all Google accounts, then sign in first with the account you use for the spreadsheet, so it becomes the browser's default.

Send tabs and approve a dataset

The add-on can read only the spreadsheet it's open in. Under Use these tabs, tick the tabs, or The whole spreadsheet. Each tab shows its size and the columns Dashful found. Empty tabs, tabs with no header row in their first 20 rows, and tabs holding a pivot table are skipped, with the reason.

Choose the project, optionally say what you want to see, and choose Send to Dashful. Dashful receives the values the cells hold, not the formulas. Each tab is known by its id, so renaming a tab or the file changes nothing, and a copy of the file starts afresh.

Dashful's AI proposes a dataset that joins the tabs: the joins in plain words with their match rate, the measures, and a reconciliation check for each tab. Approve it, or review it in Dashful first.

Tabs from another spreadsheet: open that spreadsheet, open Dashful there and send them to the same project.

Dashboards in the sidebar

Once a dataset over the spreadsheet is ready, the sidebar lists this spreadsheet's dashboards. On plans that include AI dashboard building, Build a dashboard makes a draft from a suggested or typed prompt. It takes a minute or two and uses AI credits.

The sidebar is narrow, so tiles stack in one column. Open large shows the same dashboard in a bigger window over the spreadsheet. Tiles follow your browser's light or dark setting, and Refresh recomputes them.

When the dashboard has levers and your plan includes the simulator, sliders show what would change. Nothing is saved.

Open in Dashful opens it in your browser. Publish appears when your role and plan allow it; after you confirm, everyone who can see the project's reports sees it.

Keep in sync

Tabs you've sent are listed under Keep in sync, with when each last synced. Keep this spreadsheet in sync is off until you turn it on, per person and per spreadsheet. Sync now sends at once either way.

With it on, a changed tab is sent about 30 seconds after the last edit while the sidebar is open. While it's closed, Google runs the add-on's check once an hour, the most often it allows, and any sent tab whose contents changed is sent then. That also catches values that change without an edit, such as IMPORTRANGE or NOW().

Sync runs as the person who turned it on, with their Dashful sign-in, and sends changes anyone makes to the tabs. Turning it off deletes your sync triggers for the spreadsheet.

A failed send is tried again, then shows Retry. If a tab's columns change, it waits for you to choose Load anyway. A deleted tab shows Remove from Dashful, which deletes its table in Dashful; Dashful refuses while a dataset reads the tab.

Formulas

Turn them on first: in the sidebar's Formulas section, choose the project, then Turn on formulas. That keeps a read-only Dashful token in the spreadsheet. Anyone who can edit the spreadsheet can then use the formulas to read the Dashful numbers you can see. The token expires after 90 days (Renew makes a new one); Turn off, or revoking it in Dashful under Settings → Security, stops it.

=DASHFUL_MEASURE(measure, [period], [filters], [dataset], [refresh]) returns one number, for example =DASHFUL_MEASURE("Revenue", "2026-09"). The period can be blank (the latest month with data), all, 2026, 2026-Q3, 2026-09, a date, or two of those joined by "..". Filters look like "Region=West; Channel!=Online", or can be a range of rows.

=DASHFUL_TABLE(dashboard, tile, [refresh]) fills in a dashboard tile's rows, up to 1,000 rows. The tile is a title or a position (1 is the first).

Answers are kept for a minute. Google Sheets can't be told to recalculate an add-on's formula, so Refresh Dashful formulas in the sidebar recalculates only cells whose last argument is DASHFUL_REFRESH, for example =DASHFUL_MEASURE("Revenue", "2026-09", "", "", DASHFUL_REFRESH).

Each cell is its own request, and Google gives a formula 30 seconds: one DASHFUL_TABLE is faster than many DASHFUL_MEASURE cells. A cell that runs out of time says Dashful is still working; recalculate it in a moment. Other errors show as #ERROR!, with the reason when you point at the cell.

Insert as a new tab, in the same section, writes a tile's rows to a new tab under a note of where and when they came from. Refresh inserted tables brings them up to date.

For Google Workspace admins

Once Dashful is listed: in the Google Admin console, go to Apps → Google Workspace Marketplace apps → Apps list, choose Install app, find Dashful and choose Admin install. Review and accept its permissions for your users, then choose everyone, or certain groups or organizational units. Google says changes can take up to a day.

If your users may install only approved apps, you can allow-list Dashful instead, and each person installs it themselves. Each person signs in to Dashful with their own account, so invite them to your Dashful workspace first.

Remove the add-on

First turn off Keep this spreadsheet in sync and the formulas (Turn off) in each spreadsheet where you turned them on. Then choose Extensions → Add-ons → Manage add-ons, open the menu on Dashful and choose Uninstall. If your admin installed it, ask them.

Removing the add-on doesn't delete anything in Dashful. The tabs already sent, their datasets and dashboards stay until you delete them in Dashful.

If something doesn't work

"Authorization is required", or the sidebar acts as another account: see Several Google accounts above.

The sign-in page doesn't open: the sidebar shows it as a link, which opens app.dashful.ai in a new tab. Allow app.dashful.ai through any web filter.

A tab isn't sent: empty tabs, tabs with no header row in their first 20 rows, and tabs holding a pivot table are skipped, and the sidebar says why.

Google's daily limit was reached: Google limits how much an add-on can do per person per day, more generously for Google Workspace accounts. The sidebar says so; try again the next day.

Out of AI credits: the sidebar says so. Credits and plans are managed in Dashful on the web.
